Hanzly Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 11, 2026

Hanzly helps people learn Chinese characters through flashcards, writing practice, tone drills, and progress tracking. We design the app to work primarily on your device.

Data We Do Not Collect

Hanzly does not sell personal data, does not show ads inside the app, and does not track you across other companies' apps or websites.

We do not show Apple’s App Tracking Transparency prompt. Because that permission is never requested, iOS does not release a usable advertising identifier (IDFA) to Hanzly or to the third-party SDKs it includes — the value they can read is all zeros. One of those SDKs does query the property, so we no longer claim it is never read; what we can tell you is that no advertising identifier capable of identifying you is available to us, and we do not use one to follow you across other companies’ apps or websites.

Analytics and Ad Attribution

To understand whether our own advertising (for example, ads on Facebook or Instagram) brings people to Hanzly, we use AppsFlyer, a mobile measurement service that processes data on our behalf. AppsFlyer receives: basic device information (such as model and iOS version), your IP address (used to infer an approximate, city-level location), Apple's identifier for vendor (IDFV), a random identifier created when the app is first installed, and app events such as install, app opens, and purchases (the product and price — never payment details).

Campaign attribution on iOS uses Apple's privacy-preserving SKAdNetwork framework, which reports results only in aggregate. This measurement does not use the advertising identifier (IDFA) and does not follow you across other apps or websites. You can read AppsFlyer's own privacy policy at appsflyer.com/legal/services-privacy-policy, or contact us with any request about this data.

Usage Analytics and Crash Reporting

Hanzly includes Umeng+ (友盟+), an analytics and application-performance service operated by Alibaba Group, to count how often a small set of product milestones is reached and to receive crash and performance reports. The milestones are limited to events such as finishing onboarding, completing a first study session, reaching the free-tier limit, opening the purchase screen, and completing or pending a purchase. We do not send Umeng the characters you study, your answers, or any content you type.

Umeng receives basic device and diagnostic information: device model and iOS version, system boot time and available disk space, Apple’s identifier for vendor (IDFV), an identifier Umeng generates for this installation, an approximate location inferred from your IP address, and, when the app crashes or performs poorly, diagnostic reports including stack traces. Umeng processes this data on its own servers, which may be located outside the country you use the app from. You can read Umeng’s privacy policy at umeng.com/page/policy.

Learning Data

Your study progress, review history, streaks, achievements, and app preferences are stored on your device. This data is used to make learning features work, including spaced repetition, reminders, widgets, and progress views.

Purchases

Hanzly Pro purchases are processed by Apple through StoreKit. Apple may provide Hanzly with purchase status information needed to unlock paid content. We do not receive or store your full payment card details.

Notifications

If you enable study reminders, Hanzly uses local notifications on your device. You can change notification permissions in iOS Settings.

Diagnostics

Apple may provide developers with crash logs, performance data, and App Store analytics in aggregated or diagnostic form, depending on your device settings and Apple's policies. Crash and performance reports also reach us through Umeng, as described above. We use this information to improve reliability.

Community

The credits screen links to a Hanzly community on Discord. Discord is a separate service with its own terms and privacy policy, and it requires its members to be at least 13 years old. Opening that link leaves Hanzly; anything you share there is handled by Discord, not by us.

Children

Hanzly is an education app for general audiences. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes

If this policy changes, we will update this page and its effective date.
